I haven't heard it yet! Amazing, since this is coming from my own band.

I didn't attend the mixing session because I was jamming with Hamartia for the gig last Saturday at Pasir Ris. It was GREAT, but I shall speak no further of it as it wouldn't be fair. This ain't Hamartia's blog.

Faizal's staying in camp this week and Adam's computer short circuited. Faiz's in Taiwan. Great. I won't be able to hear it until this weekend. Song's gonna debut on Unity Of Agression 2's compilation CD which comes free with every ticket. Check out Silent Hour and loads of other stuff that the bands playing have put together just for this much anticipated gig.

Everyone's in NS right now.

That sucks.

Heard UoA 2's gonna be held on 19th June. It's on a Sunday.

Demolished is doing great. I think. We're jamming soon, and we're gonna write one more new song for UoA 2. I don't know what it'll sound like, but pray that it sounds good, cause I don't want it to suck.

MI2 Cancellation

Thanks god I read my mail before I went out. There will definitely some clueless people who will turn up, receiving only CDs.

Plus, we haven't jammed for over 3 months now. These bands would usually start before their entry to National Service... and then by the time it ends, so does their passion for music. That's how some bands eventually drift apart.

Right now, Bones, Bulk and Adam is serving their country. I'm next. I'm going in in 2 days.

But thank god I'm bound for Civil Defence. The job is oh so much easier than the Army or the Police actually. Demolished is now put on hold for the moment, at least until the 3 of us POP. Adam was the first victim of NS... and now, the rest is getting it. Well, just get it over and done with, as I always say.

All our upcoming gigs were screwed. All have been postponed and re-postponed and re-re-postponed. So much for the local scene. I guess we could only hope for a gig at the end of the year, because that's when gigs start to sprout. It's either mid-year or end-year. That's when everyone will be joustling for a gig slot. Ah...

Recently I have suddenly rethought about my passion in music. Is playing music in Singapore really worth it? Instead of paying every jam session that I have for the past... say 5 years, I would have had at least a thousand dollars right now. That's not including the music gears that I have invested in during that past 5 years. So few days ago, I was really thinking... is it really worth it? I was so close to giving up. I was even looking through Yahoo! Auctions to see if anyone was interested in buying my double pedals.

I found an ad, that wanted exactly what I had. I emailed him... and the same night, he replied. He said he just got back from Swee Lee and got himself Pearl Eliminators Double Kicks. And in my head... I was like... is this a sign not to give up what I love so much?

Do I really love music that much? I thought I could just be a listener and not a musician. I guess I can't... because I really have the passion in playing music. I just want my shit to be heard and this is just another plaform where I can showcase (showoff) my creativity and talent. It's a waste to see a good talent like me just quit.

Buahuahuahuahuahuahuahua!!

Rik.

M.A.D. 2004

The turnout was disappointing. I actually forgot about M.A.D. until someone reminded me over MSN.

I reached there around 3.50 and it hasn't even started yet. And it was supposed to start at 2pm. It was 2 hours late.

I think the problem with the whole thing is that the venue is just too big. And it wasn't very advertised, so not alot of people knew about it. Probably just friends of the band and some metal scene enthusiasts, like myself.

Because of the lame turnout and the gigantic venue, it was quite a bore. I would prefer a smaller place, not too big and not too small either.

Something like the Woodlands CC auditorium. That would be the perfect place to hold a gig. Location, sound acoustics and space. Enough space for a crowd and the lights can be played around with.

But that's not the point of this post. I think what went wrong with the gig is definitely the advertising... and some of the bands were unheard of, like Selamat Pagi Cikgu and there was even a Rage Against The Machine cover band that wasn't supposed to play.

I think they weren't, because they weren't listed. It was quite a mess actually. Plus, people might have wanted to take a break after the Xtreme Metal gig the week before, which I missed because I was too lazy.

Sue me.

Rik.

Pictures from Unity Of Aggression

This is gonna be one damn long post. Sure... to each his own, but then they should organise more mixed metal genre gigs. Note that I said mixed metal.

Because you and I damn well know that metal and punk or OI! cannot mix. EVER. Metalheads resent punks and vice versa. And ironically, 14 years ago, the scene was so much more united. And I'm talking about the scene in a whole. Metalheads would attend hardcore or punk gigs for the sake of support.

Punks would attend metal gigs and not make any trouble at all. I would love to live in a world like that. Sadly, that does not happen anymore. Probably because alotta gigs are popping up, so these people never go 'gig-hungry' anymore, thus eliminating any possibility of them ever going to gigs outside of their genre.

I call this the Inexplicable Divide. It's the title of a new song I'll be writing. Cool eh? Dunno which band to give it to. Mainly because there was supposedly an even bigger and exclusive gig not far from there.

But I guessed I should have known better, since these two gigs were of different genres. Or should I say sub-genre. We have a gig where half of the line-up I've never heard of before (UoA) and another where I've heard of all the performing bands (except Abigail, which is the attraction, ironically).

I didn't think that there WAS a metalcore scene in SG, until UoA was organised. Surprising that Avenged Sevenfold is everyone's metalcore idol. They even performed covers I've never heard before, such as As I Lay Dying and... well, that's about it. There was even a band that wasn't even in the metalcore category.

A cute little band with talented musicians. Don't let the ass jiving vocalist fool you. Well, he's actually the only weirdo, but who cares? Nice little gimmick though. They label themselves 'Experimental Metal'. Is the gimmick the experimental part? I doubt so, because their guitarist used alot of different effects for their various originals which were mind boggling.

They sound like a Death Metal version of Dream Theater. Experimental indeed.

Kudos to 7 Pound Vein for churning out the biggest mosh pit I have ever seen in the history of the metal scene. Period. Usop from Axed Ministers was there to support them... and I got to see more of him than I wanted to. And I'm talking about his ass. Seriously.

Jackalhyde's set was slamming, to say the least. Someone said their originals sounded very Slipknot-ish. I didn't think so.

Erametin was brutal, as usual. They didn't plan to play Lamb Of God, but due to overwhelming response, they did. And I was the one shouting out for it. Sang along to their cover of Rose Of Sharyn... which was great man. I bet they are the first band to ever cover that song in SG. Haha...

I assume that everyone liked our set. Haha... We did 2 covers and three originals. Mandatory Suicide by Slayer and Roots by Sepultura. Someone mentioned that one of our originals, Jack And Kill, sounded like an Unearth song. I dunno whether to take it as a complement or an insult. Don't get me wrong... I dig Unearth, but... Urm...

Nevermind.

Good job to all the bands that performed. Excluding Deathsynth, as their vocalist went to Johor at the last minute and had to be replaced by... *GASP*... ANIL?! Ah well. Fuck ups are bound to happen.

Congratulations to Irwan from Jackalhyde for pulling it off nicely. Even he didn't expect such a turnout. Neither did I, frankly speaking. He's happy... everyone's happy. There were even some black metalheads in the Guinness Theatre. Surprising. Were they from the Abigail gig? Maybe? It might have been boring, so they decided to come over to SubC? Who knows for sure?

Well, one thing's for sure. It was a fucking success.

Look out for Demolished's upcoming gigs...
